Description
This iconic coffee table by Warren Platner for Knoll International represents the peak of sculptural American modernism. The round wire coffee table made its debut in 1966 and is still celebrated as a hallmark of 20th-century design. This particular set dates to April 25, 1972. How do we know? This table was purchased from the original owner along with a matching Warren Platner Easy Chair and side chair. The labels on the chairs state April 25th, 1972. A one-owner piece until now, it remains remarkably well-preserved—retaining all original components, including the beautiful beveled glass top.
This listing is for the Warren Platner coffee table alone. The orange chair and ottoman along with yellow chair are NOT included. Inquire if interested in purchasing the matching Platner chairs.
The tables’s signature steel wire frame—formed from hundreds of precisely welded rods—creates. The frame is at once structural and ornamental, fluid yet monumental. It reflects Platner’s singular ability to merge modernist restraint with decorative flourish. The design brilliantly achieves Platner’s desire to use ornament with a rational function. The “Metallic” finish is a darkened bronze tone. The metal bases are exceptionally clean—free of rust, with an even, glowing patina across both pieces.
“A classic is something that, every time you look at it, you accept it as it is, and you see no way of improving it.”
—Warren Platner
