Created for Chicago and Orlando’s Disney Quest in 1995, the “Armillary Chair” is a stunning contribution to the world of the design. Crafted from the genius of Jordan Mozer, this solid aluminum chair looks like it jumped off the screen from a Ridley Scott film. Rarely do we see such a thoughtful blend of modern design and sinister Sci-Fi inspiration. The anthropomorphic spine-like back support, replete with vertebrae, has a generous curve that makes a bold statement about the spirit of the chair.
Burgundy vinyl piping frames out the tan ochre mohair back cushions and also match the seats. The burgundy and gold upholstery is original, straight from Disney Quest. We sourced these chairs from a suburb in Illinois, so it’s almost certain that they came from the Chicago exhibit, not Orlando.
We were absolutely delighted when Jordan Mozer himself reached out to us with the following insider info: “The chair frame was made by carving maple and casting the forms in recycled aluminum-magnesium alloy in Chicago, then hand polishing and welding…cheers, Jordan Mozer”.
Condition: Very good condition. Very minor imperfections on vinyl seats. Newer mohair fabric on back supports is in excellent condition. Aluminum has been cleaned and polished. Frames are solid.
Dimensions: H 36 in. x W 18.75 in. x D 26.5 in.
