A striking swivel recliner designed by Percival Lafer and produced by Lafer S/A, Brazil. Upholstered in supple black leather, this chair’s sleek, sculptural form embodies Lafer’s unique fusion of engineering and artistry. The silhouette feels effortlessly modern—its smooth, aerodynamic curves and continuous loop arms tracing a graceful line from seat to base. The lustrous chrome frame and polished five-spoke star base contrast beautifully with the rich matte depth of the leather, creating a composition that feels both technical and sensuous.
Beyond its design pedigree, the comfort of this chair is extraordinary. Lafer’s patented multi-link reclining system provides synchronized movement between the back and footrest, creating a weightless, perfectly balanced recline. The deep cushioning envelops the body, while the contoured “helmet” headrest offers full neck support. Every motion is fluid, every position intuitive—an experience that feels more like being suspended than seated.
The chair’s proportions and mechanism are consistent with Lafer’s early-2000s Relax series and resemble the coveted “Carrie” model from that era. Each piece bears a 2003 Lafer S/A quality tag and is in very good condition. Four are available. Since opening in 2010, this is the first time we’ve encountered this model, and when these are gone, it is unlikely we’ll see them again.

About the Designer: Brazilian designer Percival Lafer (born 1936) trained in architecture before founding Lafer S/A in 1961, pioneering a new approach to modern furniture—one that joined high design, human comfort, and affordability. His inventive use of modular systems, molded woods, and plush leathers helped define Brazilian modernism for an international audience. By the 1970s, Lafer’s pieces were being exported worldwide, admired for their comfort-driven engineering and timeless aesthetic. The company continues to honor his legacy with furniture that remains as forward-thinking and inviting today as it was half a century ago.
Condition: Clean original condition. No rips in leather. Very minor imperfections on chrome base. Leather has been thoroughly cleaned and conditioned. Leather is soft and supple with uniform color and texture throughout. No discoloration.
