Description
A sculptural and highly sought-after set of eight Model 71 dining chairs designed by Niels Otto Møller for J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik, Denmark, circa 1950s–1960s. Executed in beautifully grained solid teak, these iconic Danish Modern chairs exemplify Møller’s celebrated approach to organic form and masterful craftsmanship, featuring elegantly curved backrests, softly tapered legs, and handwoven original paper cord seats.
The Model 71 is widely regarded as one of the designer’s most refined and visually balanced dining chair forms, with a silhouette that is both sculptural and exceptionally comfortable. The warm teak frames pair beautifully with the natural woven cord, giving the set a timeless, understated elegance that works equally well in Danish Modern, Scandinavian, Wabi-Sabi, or contemporary interiors.
This set retains its original woven rope/paper cord seats throughout. The chairs present well overall and display an attractive age and patina consistent with authentic vintage use. There are some small dents, scratches, and surface marks scattered throughout the teak frames from decades of use. One chair has a darker and more noticeable dent/impact mark. A few minor older repairs are present and documented in the photographs, including one front right leg with a visible crack/repair. The woven cord seats also show age and prior wear; some areas appeared to have cat scratching previously, though the affected portions were carefully trimmed and lightly sanded to minimize visibility. Most chairs retain their original manufacturer labels beneath the seats, though several chairs are missing one or more labels.
An increasingly difficult-to-find complete set of eight authentic J.L. Møller chairs, offering exceptional design pedigree and rich vintage character.
