The blue woven wool tweed looks both original and in excellent condition. Both chairs have been professionally steam-cleaned and the color is now bright and even. The chrome edge band has only very minor imperfections and contrasts nicely with the fabric It is truly a miracle to find these decades old chairs with their original fabric in such great condition. The chairs swivel 360, have a tilt adjuster to modify the pitch of the seat and are also height adjustable. First designed in 1963, Charles Pollock’s timeless design continues to be produced by Knoll in a variety of finishes. These chairs were purchased from a large set and most were tagged and dated between 1978 and 1979. Only one of these chairs is tagged and has no date.
The Pollock executive chair features what the designer described as “rim technology”—the use of a single aluminum band around the chair’s perimeter to hold the design together, structurally and visually. Fifty years after its introduction, the Pollock Chair continues to exude timeless elegance in any home or office. Chair seat height adjusts from 18″-23”
About Charles Pollock
After graduating from Pratt Institute and working with George Nelson, Charles Pollock assembled a portfolio of designs and presented them to Florence Knoll and began working on the 657 Lounge sling chair in 1961. Pollock again demonstrated his command of line and material when he conceived the 1250 series executive collection, introduced in 1965. His idea for the chair was to use an aluminum “rim,” which outlined the chair as the main structural and design element. This rim would hold the parts together, without any further support; slots in the aluminum held the back shell and the upholstery in place, and the plastic back became rigid only after being fitted into the frame. The resulting design was an achievement in structure and aesthetics, and the chair remains a Knoll classic to this day.
