Purchased from the daughter of the original owner, these amazing Papa Bear Chairs have had an incredible life. According to the daughter, the chairs first came to live in Saudi Arabia and then went into storage after some years. Next, the family moved to Libya, followed by Puerto Rico and finally ended up in Houston where the set survived Hurricane Harvy’s flood water thanks to their fortunate location on an upper floor.
The Hans Wegner Papa Bear Chair is an icon among icons. Finding one of these is a rarity, so we’re beyond proud to offer a pair along with an original ottoman. Although Team FMV did not oversee the upholstery work, it’s obvious that the job was done professionally and the newer floral pattern fabric is high quality. The teal, green, aqua and turquoise colors are an unexpectedly effective compliment to the teak arms and legs. The teak was also clearly refinished at the same time and still looks nearly flawless. If you look underneath the chairs you can see the original green tweed poking out along the edges. Today’s designers have mimicked this look in countless contemporary creations, but failed to improve on the perfection of this original.
