Super cool late 60’s early 70’s chrome dinette chair set by Howell. These cantilever style armchairs have far more style and detail than can be appreciated in these photos. The tubular bent chrome is the perfect compliment to the glossy dark burgundy vinyl. Sculpted curves, tailored embossed material, tensioned straps and futuristic design are just a few of the charms. The auto-return to center swivel mechanism works perfectly and maintains the handsome profile. Padded arms and backs add support to these very comfortable chairs.
The Restoration:
These chairs have lasted for 50 years and all we had to do was detail the chrome / vinyl and lube the ball bearings on the swivel plate to get them ready for another 50. You’ll be lucky to 5 years of service from an IKEA chair before it quivers and snaps into a pile of splinters. This is why we love American made vintage furniture.
