Description
Harris Strong “Cave” embroidered textile art image. Large size at 4.5 feet long. This piece deviates from Strong’s typical medium, ceramics. The materials chosen are a clue to the age of the piece and represent a pivotal change in Strong’s career. Strong worked nearly exclusively in ceramics until a fire destroyed his studio in the early 1970s, destroying his ceramics equipment and the glaze formulas. After the fire Strong moved to other mediums such as prints, textiles, paintings, collage, paintings and serigraphs. This piece is unique in that the artist chose textile to express his design. The linen field comes alive with embroidered thread hunters pursuing their game. Back side bears the Harris Strong label.
