Description
The essence of Danish Modern elegance defines this sculptural teak desk, conceived in the early 1960s by architect‑designer Svend Åge Madsen for Sigurd Hansen Møbelfabrik. Titled the SH‑180 model, it harmoniously merges organic silhouette and refined utility. The gently bowed desktop floats above drawer modules, supported by gracefully arched “A‑frame” legs that give the piece an aerospace-like lightness, wrapped in the honeyed glow of solid teak.
Fully restored with professional care, the entire structure underwent deconstruction and hand-finishing. Many surfaces were sanded, cornered edges smoothed, and refinished with multiple coats of oil to deepen the wood’s warmth and reveal the grain. The internal drawer mechanisms were serviced for smooth operation. The result: a desk that balances brand-new visual serenity with authentic vintage presence and structural integrity.
Beneath the desk top lies an expansive built-in bookcase cabinet: an ideal niche for manuscripts, volumes, or display objects—offering storage without disrupting the design’s clarity. Six drawer fronts feature delicate recessed handles, the concave lip surface preventing loose papers from slipping off. The rear bookcase area completes the aesthetic. Floating architectural cabinetry maintains an ultra-clean silhouette.
