Mid-Century era Henri Matisse “Still Life with Pomegranates” lithographic print on paper. This work is attributed to printer Mourlot, of Paris with a 1948 production date. The wood frame is original to the piece, of the same vintage. Our restoration team updated with wood frame with new black enamel paint. A pane of acrylic protects the vintage print. A new dijon yellow matte has been added to the print. This is a two tier matte with a white inset liner adding a degree of finesse to the presentation. We believe the golden matte is a call back to the yellow pomegranates situated at the fore. Perhaps the most impressive aspect of this image is Matisse’s bold use of color. The deep red is absolutely captivating, especially in contrast with the striking black and green elements. The framed image is ready to hang.
