Description
Born on April 22nd in 1958, this free-standing wall-unit / hutch is truly an architectural masterpiece. The entire construction can be easily broken down and assembled without any hardware. The top and bottom cabinets lock and slide into the support panels like puzzle pieces. Designed by Hans J. Wegner for Ry Møbler, this Scandinavian marvel is not only the pinnacle of versatility, but a stunning work of natural art. Look close and you can see how the maker used an assortment of teak wood species to create contrasting tones and patterns throughout. The drawers, doors, cases and support panels each have their own personality. The dark, tawny rosewood pulls on the drawers are yet another demonstration of this discipline.
This RY-20 model is a storage and function powerhouse. It’s essentially a dry-bar, china cabinet, room divider, and credenza all in one. The one-piece unit has two tiers. The upper portion sports two, large, birch-lined interior spaces with adjustable / removable shelves. These upper cabinet spaces are concealed by cathedral-grained sliding doors with recessed circular pulls. The bottom portion of the cabinet features six, fiery grained drawers with dark tawny wood pulls. The top right drawer still has it’s original, green felt lining.
