Mid Century Modern 1960s era Broyhill Brasilia Commode Side Table Cabinets. Named such by Broyhill, these commodes are small cabinets, finished on the backside as well. They can be used as nightstands, end tables, or extra storage for records or linens. Part of the much beloved and voraciously collected Brasilia line designed by famed architect Oscar Niemeyer for Broyhill in the 1960s. Modeled after his signature architectural style exhibited in Brazil’ss capital. Walnut and pecan wood with a wide open cabinet interior. The distinctive elongated, inverted arches adorn the front edifice. We also have a matching double dresser, coffee table, mirrors, desk, serving cart, china cabinet and credenza in addition to these Brasilia Commode Side Table Cabinets.
The Brasilia line by Broyhill was created in 1962. The signature lines and waves of Brasilia furniture were inspired by the distinct architecture of the city of Brasilia, the capital of Brazil. The city of Brasilia was planned and developed between 1956 and 1960. When viewed from above, the city’s shape resembles a plane or bird, which is mimicked on much of Broyhill’s original fabric and tiles. Most of the city’s architecture was the vision of a man named Oscar Niemeyer.
