Description
A treasure trove of 20th Century political history is represented on this Replogle 1950s globe. The exact date of production is not printed, but the political boundaries indicates that this map is pre-1958. One tell tale sign is “French West Africa.” The new French constitution of 1958 offered colonies an opportunity to become autonomous. Guinea was the first to gain independence in 1958. An Independence wave swept West Africa in 1960. Nearly all former French colonies became politically autonomous and geographically distinct. The globe also shows Eastern Europe, Russia, and Central Asia joined together as The USSR. Yugoslavia is unified, Germany (and Berlin) are divided. The rotating and spinning globe is situated on a maple post and base. The Replogle brand is present above the map legend. The Mid-Century Modern relic surpasses aesthetic value. It’s a valuable record of human history.
