Description
Remarkable antique Brazilian sugar cane press table. Monumental stature at nearly 5ft in diameter! The piece is believed to be over 200 years old. Originating from Brazil. We were told it was created from a sugar cane press cog dating from the late 1700s or early 1800s. The legs were said to be salvaged ship masts from the same period. In fact, an iron spike can be seen sticking out from the side of the leg. The original owner purchased the table in the 1960s, in Brazil. The table was then shipped to England, then to Florida when the owner retired. On her passing, her pool cleaner made an arrangement to clean the property’s pool until he had earned enough to purchase the table from the family. The pool cleaner fell on hard times, loosing his business, his home, and most of his possessions. The only thing he had left was this table. He approached FMV with a proposal to sell the table to help him get back on his feet. And here we are, presenting this grand piece, guiding the table along its next great journey. There is no documentation to authenticate the age of the table. The physical characteristics of the wood seem to match the age description.
