Description
This stunning mid-century credenza is a mix of solid teak and teak veneer over hardwood. There’s no press-board or composite material on this piece. These early Scandinavian credenzas are becoming more difficult to source, making this piece all the more special. The teakwood exhibits that oh so desirable deep orange hue garnered only from decades of natural aging. This sideboard is a perfect marriage of design and function, featuring exquisite craftsmanship and lots of storage. Similar to the works of Nils Jonsson, the middle bank of four drawers and tambour doors feature sculpted, 6-sided pulls. These geometric, recessed channels are unlike anything we’ve seen before. This style provides an added sense of dimension and texture. Slide the tambour doors open to reveal two large storage cabinets, each with adjustable / removable shelves. The left cabinet includes three small pull-out drawers. Shut the doors all the way to conceal everything or achieve another look by leaving the doors partially open around the center drawers.
The construction quality on this piece is exceptional. There’s virtually no bowing or sagging after all the these decades. The tambour doors move easily and close shut without any gaps. The dovetail joined, smooth-open drawers are also the hallmarks of steadfast design. This unique credenza came to us in already excellent condition but our restoration team still spent many hours mitigating the minor imperfections. We’re certain you find a more sublime representation of this sideboard anywhere.
