Description
Purchased in Denmark for 5705 Kroner and delivered to Miami Florida in 1973, this colossal coffee table has been with the original owners for nearly 50 years. We acquired it this summer and just finished the restoration. The original bill of sale has detailed information about the purchase, but we are still uncertain of the maker or designer. This is not a typical, flat-pack, meant-for-export, Danish coffee table. This monster weighs a ton and could support the weight of an elephant. There are 1152 solid teak cubes, staved together inside of thick metal grid consisting of 16 sections. The solid cubes give the impression it could be made by Gorm Lindum for Tranekær, but it’s really unlike anything we’ve ever seen. The massive, Jax style, cast iron base is so interesting, beautiful and unique that it might even be a one-of-one. The five jax-leg spires are bolted to a central column that radiate outward to support the hulking top. Restored to excellent condition by our in-house cabinet shop. Purchase with confidence.
