Description
King Kamehameha called, he wants his bar back. Take a walk on the wild side, or maybe just have a Mai Tai there, with this fabulous tiki bar by Witco. The bar, “Model T-150 Tahiti” and stools are substantial, manufactured of thick slabs of cedar wood. Each stool is unique and runs the gamut of Witco design. A mix of tiki totems and chess pieces that each feature their own, original bold fabric. At nearly 83″ wide, this massive bar is probably the coolest model of their entire catalog. Four, enormous, Polynesian inspired tiki totem faces adorn the front and sides. The scale and sculptural detail on this set is unmatched.
Everything has been professionally detailed inside and out, top to bottom. The stool fabric as also been steam cleaned. The back side of the bar features sturdy shelves and ample storage.
The vintage bar was born of the jet-set era. The 1960s was the golden age of air travel and America’s were absolutely fascinated with “Exotica.” Ephemera from exotic tropical lands around South Asia were all the rage and gave birth to an explosion of tiki motifs in popular American culture.
Robert Post Junior and Artist William Westenhaver Created Witco in 1959. The two capitalized on the exotica trend by creating lavishly bold, roughly carved wood furniture and decor. The delightfully dramatic furniture was so beloved during the period that Elvis created an entire “Jungle Room” in his Graceland home featuring Witco furniture! Witco remains a mainstay among collectors today. You can even see original Witco pieces still in use at Graceland, and other iconic tiki venues like Polynesian Gardens, the Hawaiian Inn, and the Aku Tiki Inn all located in Florida.
