Description
Vintage 1969 Abstract Expressionist Color Field painting signed, “Nakamura.” The large oil painting straddles Abstract Expressionism and Color Field painting. The bold brush strokes become individually ambiguous as Nakamura repeatedly layers them to create a large mass of red. The red field is not homogenous. Depth and delineation is achieved as Nakamura populates the area with varying tones, opacities and textures. Lines of red move Eastward across the canvas into a field of gold ochre as if we are watching a star bursting out into the cosmos in a solar storm. The painting is oil on canvas, stretched over a wood frame, signed and dated on the back side. The black frame is new and made of solid wood. This painting was acquired from an estate in Princeton, New Jersey.
